Overview:

Our TESL program gives you both the theory and teaching practice necessary in the English language teaching industry. Three quarters of English Language Teaching (ELT) jobs as for a TESL certificate.

At UMC, we offer full-time (4 weeks) of intense learning. Our TESL course.

  • ● Involves a minimum of 120 hours with additional time required for preparation and assignments.
  • ● Provides observed teaching practice experience with multilingual English language learners from the all over the world.
  • ● Follows the TESL Canada guidelines for teaching English as a Second Language and provides practical and professional awareness of learners, language, methodology and materials.
  • ● Develops practical ability in classroom management, lesson planning, introductions and practice of new language, and the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
  • ● Is intended for native speakers of English and those whose English is of native-speaker level.

What will you learn?

 KNOWLEDGE

  • ● Understand and apply the different methodologies in teaching ESL students.
  • ● Understand and apply the different approaches used to teach the English language.
  • ● Know and understand the different approaches used to teach the difference language skills and strategies, including reading, listening, writing and speaking.
  • ● Know the different sources of errors language learners display.
  • ● Know the issues and benefits of creating lessons plans and the different elements and styles of lesson plans.
  • ● Know the difference between summative and formative assessments.
  • ● Know and understand the different roles of the teacher in the classroom.
  • ● Know and understand the difference factors that describe and influence language learners such as age, learning styles, competency level and motivation.

 

SKILLS

  • ● Choose which methodology is appropriate for specific language skills.
  • ● Assess, choose and apply difference approaches for specific language skills.
  • ● Teach language construction-Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
  • ● Demonstrate ability to provide meaningful feedback on student work and performance.
  • ● Create and mark tests, evaluations, assessments that achieve validity and reliable.
