Update 4: launching our NEW Virtual ESL classes (V-ESL)

December 10, 2020

As of January 2021, UMC will be launching our NEW Virtual ESL Classes (V-ESL) delivered asynchronously as well as our return to face-to-face, IN-PERSON Classes delivered at our Eglinton Campus. UMC has put the necessary protocols in place that follow the guidelines set forth by Toronto Public Health and the Ministry of Health of Ontario to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

UMC’s main purpose for this transition is to be able to accommodate students with flexible options to reach their study goals while overcoming time differences as well as other factors that may prevent students from attending IN-PERSON classes at our campus.

Asynchronous Defined

Asynchronous Learning is the key feature of successful online learning programs. The word “asynchronous” means not keeping time together, which refers to students’ ability to access information, demonstrate what they’ve learned, and communicate with classmates and instructors on their own time–they don’t have to be in the same classroom or even in the same time zone to participate, however, live classes will be added to the schedule to incorporate Academic Integrity as well as

UMC will offer Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Virtual ESL classes. Below is an outline of the program’s highlights:

  • 5 weekly hours of online and offline learning
  • Different online Learning timeslots
  • The interactive learning environment and on-demand video-learning

All students must read over the UMC Covid-19 Handbook which outlines the protocols UMC has put in place to allow for a safe return back to face-to-face learning. Please speak to your regional counselor to obtain the handbook or visit our website at www.umcollege.ca For further information about UMC’s health and safety measures, please contact info@umcollege.net.
